MIC provides x-ray imaging for patients in two convenient ways: scheduled appointments in advance; or as a walk-in x-ray service with no appointment necessary.

Patients can select whichever service option is most convenient based on their lifestyle. The goal is to provide flexibility.

However, sometimes there is confusion about how we service x-rays – patients wonder if factors like the area of interest etc., impact eligibility for a walk-in or scheduled appointment.

Scheduled Appointments for X-ray

Scheduled x-ray appointments are available at all 13 MIC clinics across Edmonton, Sherwood Park, St. Albert, or Fort Saskatchewan. Our central booking team can help schedule an x-ray appointment between 7:30 AM-6:00 PM, depending on the clinic.

More specifically, patients can schedule an x-ray Monday to Friday at Allin Clinic, Century Park, Gateway, Grandin, Hys Medical Centre, Namao 160, SouthPointe, Sturgeon Medical Women’s Imaging Centre, Summit Centre, Synergy Wellness Centre, Tawa Centre, Terra Losa, and Windermere.

Most MIC clinics provide x-ray hours until 5:00 PM. However, four locations offer extended hours into the evenings: Century Park, Summit Centre, Tawa Centre, and Windermere.

Furthermore, three of these locations also schedule x-ray appointments on Saturdays (Century Park, Tawa Centre, and Windermere).

To schedule an x-ray appointment at MIC, patients must contact our central booking team by calling 780-450-1500 or submitting an online appointment request.

Benefits of Scheduling an X-ray in Advance

Patients should consider scheduling an x-ray in advance as opposed to walking in to minimize potential wait time in our clinics.

While we do our best to complete diagnostic imaging exams on time, sometimes there are challenges that can impact wait times – particularly for walk-in x-ray imaging since it is provided on a first-come, first-served basis.

Scheduling an appointment also allows patients to pick a time of their preference that might work better with their own schedule or commitments.

For example, if a patient doesn’t enjoy driving, they might schedule an appointment at 10:00 AM to avoid rush hour traffic. Similarly, if they have an important work meeting in the morning and a sports commitment in the evening, they might schedule an appointment in the early afternoon.

Walk-in X-ray Imaging

Patients can also visit any MIC clinic in Edmonton, Sherwood Park, St. Albert, or Fort Saskatchewan to receive an x-ray on a walk-in basis without an appointment. This service is provided on a first-come, first-served basis, from 8:00 AM to 7:00 PM, depending on the clinic. Visit our location page to find a detailed list of x-ray operating hours

Benefits of Walk-in X-ray Imaging

The main benefit to having your x-ray performed on a walk-in basis is not having to wait on the phone to schedule an appointment through our central booking team. Occasionally, the queue to speak with an agent over the phone can become long, and waiting on hold can be frustrating.

Wait Times and Walk-in X-ray Imaging

Since walk-in x-ray imaging is provided on a first-come, first-served basis, there is potential for long queues during busy clinic hours. We encourage patients to plan their visit accordingly and leave plenty of time to complete their x-ray.

Both Services Require a Requisition

Whether you schedule an appointment or visit an MIC clinic on a walk-in basis for your x-ray, you must have a requisition from a practitioner.

If a patient would like to book an appointment, they require the requisition when they call our central booking team.

If a patient visits one of our clinics on a walk-in basis, they will require a requisition when they check in at our reception desk.

MIC Accepts All Requisitions

Did you know that MIC accepts all types of requisition forms? You can still book your exam at MIC even if your doctor gives you a requisition with another logo or different colours on it.

While some requisitions may look different, most medical imaging providers in Edmonton offer similar services at various locations (like x-ray imaging). So, the next time you need an x-ray, consider booking or walking in at one of MIC Medical Imaging’s many locations!

Scheduled vs. Walk-in X-ray FAQs

No. There is no preparation for an x-ray, regardless of whether it is a walk-in or scheduled appointment. Patients must bring their requisition, Alberta Health Care card (or out-of-province health care card), and photo identification to the exam.
No. There is no cost to book an x-ray appointment or visit for a walk-in x-ray (assuming the patient has a valid health care card).
Once the x-ray images are captured, an MIC radiologist will review them, dictate their findings, and send the report to your practitioner, typically within 24 hours. It does not matter whether the exam was performed as a walk-in x-ray or a scheduled x-ray appointment.
No. Patients must have a requisition from a practitioner to get an x-ray at MIC. Patients who want to schedule their x-ray in advance need the requisition when they call our central booking team. No. There are no limitations, such as the area of interest, that would impact eligibility for a walk-in or scheduled x-ray. Both scheduled x-rays and walk-in x-rays are performed by the same highly skilled technologists on the same technology, and our radiologists interpret the findings.
